i’m generally pretty tidy but i still hate doing chores like mopping the kitchen floor. today i resolved to do just that, and i chose as my soundtrack an album that always makes me smile to make the task a little less daunting. i bought my used copy of dude ranch when i was in high school for $9.99 at volume cd exchange near lynnhaven mall after seeing the video for “dammit” on 120 minutes, and i still own that same copy. it is scratched to all hell (but mostly only skips at the end of “josie”) and never fails to remind me of being young, of learning how to play the power chords for “dammit” with jared in my bedroom on my squier strat with anime stickers on it, of playing it in my car on road trips and singing along to every word.
