we had a blast watching the wonder years play at the sokol underground in omaha last night, even if we felt like the oldest people in the room. it almost (but not quite) made up for morrissey getting canceled the night before.
pretty excited to see the wonder years in omaha next week (the day after we’re seeing morrissey in town!) despite the fact that i still have a ton of work to do, i’m glad we get to have some fun during spring break.
ryan and i are off to memphis tomorrow - it’s strictly business and we won’t have time to go to graceland or to the national civil rights museum but i just keep telling myself it’s not that far away and we can always go back sometime. we are, however, going to check out this badass looking restaurant called DeJaVu where i am going to stuff my face with vegetarian soul food. i’m really excited!
in a few hours, i will get in the car, crank up the classic college radio station on our new xm edge radio, head out to kck to pick up ryan, and we will finally be on our way home for the holidays. we’re taking the boring route (I-70 through missouri to I-64 all the way to virginia, barf) so we won’t get to drive in maryland but we’re staying in a swanky hotel in lexington, kentucky tonight and really, who cares as long as we get home. the trunk is full of gifts and i am so ready to get out of here.
i’m kind of homesick lately. this was taken this summer at a rest area on i-64 east around richmond.
john denver -rocky mountain high
i love john denver so much. i ripped this from my vinyl and i think it sounds SO GOOD. great road trip song (even though we’re heading east)
i am homesick in the worst way - not for 6 and 3/4 mile back-ups at the HRBT or traffic, but for my mom, ryan’s family, a 7-11 on every corner, ghent, friends i don’t get to see enough, and the god damn atlantic ocean.
in about 24 hours, my dude and i will be speeding east on I-70, getting the hell out of kansas for almost a month and heading to the first stop on our epic road trip - north carolina. we’re not going to meander through boone this time but instead are driving straight to raleigh (18-hour trip!) where we’ll stay with my brother for a few days before heading up to hampton roads to see our folks. i love, love, love north carolina and i can’t wait to just be there, breathing the air.
